Typical of the two dozen or so resorts sprinkled around the lakes; rustic Black Pine Beach Resort on Lower Whitefish Lake (also known as Pig Lake), with 13 housekeeping cabins tucked into pine woods dotted with distinctive silver birch. The resort has a sand beach and boats for guests. Cabins feature knotty-pine paneling, carpet, full kitchens, fireplaces (with wood provided), outdoor grills, and decks. Alongside the beach is a large barbecue pit.

Schmidt's stories explore Midwest working men and women over the last 50 to 100 years, all told through the clothing of the time.
